Dr. Darcy Ries, ND

Meet Dr. Darcy Ries, ND

Dr. Ries is an Oregon licensed naturopathic physician who received her doctoral training in Portland, OR at the National College for Natural Medicine, now NUNM. There she received focused training in general naturopathic care, women’s health, botanical and nutritional medicine, homeopathy, physical manipulation of the spine and extremities, and Swedish and shiatsu styles of bodywork. Additionally, she completed a competitive 9-month clinical rotation focused on cardiopulmonary care.

Prior to her medical studies, Darcy completed an undergraduate degree in sports/exercise science with internships in cardiac rehabilitation and fitness leadership. Subsequently she worked within the healthcare field at a physical therapy clinic and later at two national health non-profit organizations: the American Heart Association and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is also a level II Reiki practitioner, trained in the Usui tradition, and a former competitive runner.

Naturopathic philosophy is at the heart of Dr. Ries’ practice. She enjoys personally getting to know her patients and their stories, believes in supporting the body’s own healing capability and digging deep to find the causes of disease, and is careful to try the least invasive and most natural treatment options first.  Her patients describe her as being lighthearted, sincere and dedicated.

Dr. Ries utilizes multiple approaches to care, including standard and specialty lab testing, botanical medicine (herbs), nutritional medicine including therapeutic diet and nutritional supplements, homeopathy, physical manipulation, injection therapy, and therapeutic bodywork. This approach is very personalized, and incorporates engaged listening, compassionate dialogue, thorough analysis, and health education. Dr. Ries enjoys working with a diverse population of patients; she is supportive of patients of all ages, sizes, racial and ethnic identities, and gender identities.

Dr. Ries' Medical Philosophy

Do No Harm

This principle of ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (c 460 – 370 BC) remains within the oath all medical doctors take today.

Healing Power of Nature

The body has the natural ability to heal itself when given the right tools.

Treat The Underlying Cause

One can spend a lot of time and money chasing symptoms. Real resolution lies in addressing the cause.

Doctor As Teacher

A physician’s job is to educate and empower patients within the realm of healthcare.

Treat The Whole Person

You are not merely your physical body. Truly holistic treatment should honor mental, emotional, social, financial and spiritual aspects of being in addition to physiology.

Prevention

True preventative medicine is more than watching to catch a disease early; it is keeping you in sufficient health to avoid the disease in the first place.
